The Victorian Era saw Christmas become a time of feasting, celebrating and gift giving. Make, decorate and package your own Victorian recipe biscuits, gingerbread and shortbread on this creative one day course. You will also have the opportunity to create your own tree decorations, table centre-piece or garlands which will give your Christmas that special Victorian ambience. Other ideas for gift making will be given including filling bags with flowers or dried fruits for gifts or decorations.
In the morning you will choose a selection of biscuits to make and package up as gifts for friends and family;
Gingerbread shapes – hearts, starts, Christmas trees, angels, historical figures etc
From Mrs Beeton – Cheese straws, cinnamon biscuits and spiced biscuits
From Eliza Acton – Queen Biscuits, The Colonel’s Biscuits
Victorian Shortbread biscuits
For lunch you will sit down to a meal taken from an Eliza Acton recipe – China Chilo (minced lamb with a little curry powder to spice it up) served with crusty bread followed by a tasty Victorian dessert and washed down with a spicy Victorian punch!
In the afternoon you will ice and decorate your biscuits before gift wrapping and packaging them or turning them into tree decorations.
You will also make a selection of the following;
A Victorian style centre-piece for your festive table
Tree decorations or a mantle garland made from ribbons, evergreens, hawthorn berries and dried autumn coloured leaves
Lace or net bags filled with fragrant spices, sweets or dried fruits to give as gifts or hang on your tree.
This course will surely get you in the Christmas spirit as well as providing you with a lot of goodies which you have made yourself to give to friends and family this Christmas!
