Come and take part in one of the oldest crafts known to man - a traditional craft using natural materials.  The use of obelisks as plant supports probably originates from discarded fish traps, usually Salmon Putchers, which would be upturned and used to support Sweet Peas, Clematis and Climbing Beans in the Cottage Garden.  Willow artist, Alison, will show you how to make willow plant supports which you can complete in a day.  You will take home a new skill and a beautiful piece of art for your garden. Taught by Alison Walling from Lincoln Willow.  www.lincolnwillow.co.uk.  £65. Max 6. Lunch & materials included.

May 2012

May is a lovely month - the garden is really beginning to show signs of life, the days are long (and hopefully warm!) and energy is all around.  This is a great month for the garden and we have several courses running which will help you get out there and enjoy the great outdoors.

We are still planning May's workshops but please find below those we have already arranged.  More to follow soon.

Basket-making Day.  Saturday 12th May.  10am - 4pm.  £65. Max 5. Lunch & materials included

On this one-day wBasket makingorkshop you will make a small round basket (as shown in the back of the photo) using the stake and strand technique, which is the starting point for most round and oval english baskets.  With a variety of willows to hand, you will learn how to weave the base, upset the side stakes and slew the siding then finish the basket with a simple border.  You will also learn about the different basketmaking tools and how they are employed.

This is a more advanced workshop compared to the other basket making courses we offer and it is preferable if participants have had some previous craft experience working with willow or other natural materials.  It's quite hard work and a lot to learn in one day, but very worthwhile and rewarding!  Taught by Alison Walling from Lincoln Willow.  www.lincolnwillow.co.uk.  10am - 4pm.  Max 6.  Lunch & materials included
