What makes your stay Special
A stay at the Manor House Stables is special in many ways - you are welcomed with a luxury hamper full of local or special goodies including local honey, crisps made in Lincolnshire, locally-made jam, muesli from a local windmill, Lincolnshire plum bread from a local producer and apple juice made in Lincolnshire plus biscuits, coffee, tea and chocolates. Your fridge is full of produce including Lincolnshire sausages and local organic eggs. You will also find a basket of vegetables collected from our garden (or from local shops when we have run low), freshly baked bread usually made from flour from a local windmill and a bottle Lincolnshire wine - all to help make your stay a special as possible.
I make all my own bread - and run some great bread making courses too! Please see our Courses & Workshops page. I use flour from Maud Foster Mill in Boston. There are other great windmills in Lincolnshire too which mill their own flour.
What you'll enjoy during your stay
You'll find a little booklet in your hamper which tells you about where all the food you'll find in your accommodation comes from. Here is some information about the products.
We grow as many of the vegetables as possible. Your own private gardens have a selection of herbs for you to pick and use yourself. When we can't grow all the vegetables we need, we purchase it from local shops, farm shops and farmers' markets. Information about these, and the dates when markets are held, are provided in your accommodation. Lincolnshire is well known for its great supply of fresh produce and is definitely a place to come if you love food! See what the Guardian has to say about Lincolnshire as a place for foodies! For more information about local products, where to buy and where to eat, please see the Love Food Select Lincolnshire Website
Love Food Select Lincolnshire
We are members of the Select Lincolnshire (formerly Tastes of Lincolnshire) and were the proud Winners 2010 (Self catering category) and 'Highly Commended' in 2009, reflecting our dedication to all things local. We use local produce (including our own) in the accommodation and on courses, for hampers and for your first night meals. Love Food Select Lincolnshire is all about the promotion of local food and drink in Lincolnshire and the logo at restaurants and tearooms means that local produce has been used. A list of all the places you can go to sample good Lincolnshire fayre is given in the super magazine 'Good Tastes', copies of which are provided in the accommodation for you to take home with you. We recommend the Village Limits in Woodhall Spa, Doddington Hall Farm Shop and Cafe, the Old Bakery in Lincoln, Magpie Restaurant in Horncastle and Abbey Parks Farm Shop near East Heckington, amongst others.- all serve up great food using local produce and all are Select Lincolnshire members.
